Introduction to Action Planning Session

This session is designed to assist the organization’s executive director and senior leaders to develop action plans for the identified goals outlined in the organization’s strategic plan. These action plans are then used internally by staff and the board to guide their work and measure performance.

If this session is booked as part of the organization’s strategic planning process, it should be hosted FOLLOWING the one-day Strategic Planning Session, as the priorities identified in this session will now be expanded on.

If this session is not booked as part of the organization’s strategic planning process, it can be hosted whenever is convenient for the organization – the choice is yours!

This is one of SARC’s Strategic Planning Services and can be considered part of an organization’s Strategic Planning Process. Check out our other sessions by clicking the icons below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does our organization need action plans?

Yes! Just like a trip requires a map for clear directions, organizations need action plans to achieve their goals. Action plans provide a detailed roadmap, outlining each step needed to reach each goal. They specify what needs to be done, by whom, by when, and help communicate progress, keeping everyone informed, motivated, and accountable.

Who is responsible for creating action plans?

Typically, the executive director and senior leaders create action plans; however, other employees may also be involved. This ensures that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities and that the plan is realistic and thorough. The board also can play a role in creating action plans for goals that may be related to the board’s work.

What are the benefits of having an action plan?

Action plans provide clear direction and focus, ensure better resource allocation, enhance communication, and improve accountability as they are a way to measure performance. Action plans help break down objectives into manageable, organized steps.

We developed our strategic plan over a year ago. Could we still benefit from this session?

Yes! In order to translate strategic planning goals into actionable steps, organizations need to develop action plans to outline achievable tasks and activities, as well as get the ball rolling. If your organization has yet to get started, or is unsure of how to develop action plans, then this session is for you.
