WHMIS 2015

WHMIS 2015

This program is intended for staff who may be exposed to hazardous materials while at work, as well as supervisors of those employees

The Workplace Hazardous Information System 2015, or WHMIS 2015, is an important safety course that will teach Learners how to identify hazards through pictograms, labels, and Safety Data Sheets.

This course was created by SARC Learning Central and is based on the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, or CCOHS WHMIS 2015 online training, which is recommended and endorsed by WorkSafe Saskatchewan. You can visit the website here. The online WHMIS 2015 course meets a variety of learning styles, is narrated, and includes videos.

This course is applicable in all Canadian provinces, as WHMIS 2015 was created in partnership with federal and provincial jurisdictions. For more information, please visit www.whmis.org

This course is recommended for workers who work with hazardous products at their workplace, and the supervisors of those workers.

As a requirement of CLSD COMPASS funding, SARC must report on training satisfaction rates. As a result, we ask that all Learners complete individual program evaluations immediately upon finishing any training, as well as within 3-4 months of completion. Your feedback will also be used to ensure that SARC continues to provide the best training possible.

Important Information

This course is considered WHMIS education, which means it contains general aspects of WHMIS and is the first step in your WHMIS instruction. Upon completion of this course, your employer is then required to provide you workplace specific training on the hazardous products that you will use in your workplace.

After completing the course, you will be required to take a final exam. To successfully complete the course, you must pass the final exam with a minimum of 80 percent, at which time you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Note: You are able to take the final exam three times in order to pass, before having to take the course again. If you do not successfully pass the exam on your third attempt, please notify your supervisor to be re-enrolled in the course.

It is recommended that workers who work with hazardous products in their workplace, and supervisors of those workers, take the WHMIS 2015 course every three years in order to stay current.

Employer provided refresher education and/or training may be required annually, or more often, if you start using different hazardous products in your workplace.

The WHMIS 2015 course contains the following six (6) modules:

  • Module 1: Overview of WHMIS, including the changes resulting in WHMIS 2015.
  • Module 2: Hazard classification.
  • Module 3: Labels.
  • Module 4: Safety Data Sheets.
  • Module 5: Exposure to hazardous products.
  • Module 6: WHMIS education and training.

Each module ends with a short quiz so that individual Learners can review learning principles before moving on to the next module.
